The holiday season is upon us and everyone has different traditions they want to go through. Some go shopping on Black Friday, risking life and limb, to get into the Christmas spirit. Some go see Christmas light displays throughout the Kansas City metro area. Others play Christmas music 24/7. The newest form of Christmas cheer is spread by social media – reminiscing.
Not only do people on social media sites talk about what puts them in the Christmas spirit, but also favorite Christmas media moments are shared. In today’s world, Christmas is known as a commercial holiday and social media is expanding that notion as people share their favorite Christmas commercials.
There are the classic commercials, such as the M&Ms encountering Santa throughout the years and the polar bears sharing a Coke in the snow. Then there are newer, just as beloved commercials, such as the Hershey kisses playing “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” with bells and the Campbell’s commercial where the snowman melts into a boy after eating a bowl of soup.
Many sites are blogging about the greatest Christmas commercials ever and people share these videos through YouTube, Tumblr, Facebook, and Twitter. This spreading amps up the feeling of Christmas through the web, even to those who do not celebrate Christmas share the cute or funny commercials.
These commercials put people, not only into the Christmas spirit, but also the shopping spirit. Traditions are formed based on these commercials, like eating soup after playing in the snow, supplying Coke at holiday parties, stuffing stockings with M&Ms, and buying Hershey’s kisses to bake into cookies.
