The annual Ala Wai Harbor Christmas Boat Parade and Toys for Tots drive, co-sponsored by the Hawaii and Waikiki yacht clubs, has once again joined with the Aloha Tower Marketplace in Honolulu Harbor to create a spectacular floating light show for the patrons of the Marketplace as well as for anyone along the coast between those two harbors.
And if it’s true that everybody loves a parade, then there should be plenty of folks gathering to watch the flashy flotilla assembling in the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 5:45 p.m.
Once assembled, and after passing in review at the HYC, the parade’s route will take it out of the Ala Wai Harbor and west past Magic Island and Kewalo Basin into Honolulu Harbor, where it will make a couple of passes by the Marketplace before returning to its home port.
The dock-level view of the parade from one of the first-class Marketplace eateries should be spectacular.
Parade organizers expect the parading vessels will return to the Ala Wai Harbor by about 8 p.m. for a final review and an awards ceremony at the HYC, where members of the U.S. Marine Corps will be on hand to accept cash donations or new, unwrapped toys.
As this parade is open to any and all boat owners who would like to take part, organizers request those who wish to do so must attend a skippers’ meeting at the HYC. For further information, contact Christmas Boat Parade Co-Chair Normajean Cavell at 366-0577.
