The Beatles sang 'Can't buy me love.'
Tell that to an America which, filled with consumers, beats each other up for a pair of sneakers.
"I will raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins,
and I will make his Kingdom firm.
I will be a father to him,
and he shall be a son to me.
Your house and your Kingdom shall endure forever before me;
your throne shall stand firm forever.” 2 Samuel 7:1-5, 8-12, 14, 16
People mortgage (literally) their whole future on the purchase of cars, big screen TV's, bigger houses, boats, motorcycles, and a slew of tattoos, trinkets, and toys, all in the hope of becoming 'that man' or 'that woman' to be respected--in a deluded attempt at buying Love.
Yet, everything we really need is always right in front of us.
Making breakfast for our children, picking up a 'honey-do' item for our spouse, giving our pet a treat, helping our neighbor with their garbage pails, calling our Mom on Christmas, opening our Bible and listening to our Heavenly Father speak through His Spirit and His Son…priceless!
"The favors of the LORD I will sing forever;
through all generations my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness.
For you have said, “My kindness is established forever”;
in heaven you have confirmed your faithfulness." Psalm 89:2-5, 27, 29
What we struggle to purchase today, we'll struggle to put in the trash in a time soon to come. What we should desire, that which never fades, is faith in God, love of family, and desire for Life. Those are truly sound investments in time, treasure, and talent worth relishing this Christmas.
You can always buy a new (fill in the blank), but you can never relive time lost.
"Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
for he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty Savior,
born of the house of his servant David." Luke 1:67-79
Christmas is more than a day, it's a season. Christmas is more than the toys, it's the giving. Christmas is more than time off, and mistletoe, and Santa and his reindeer--it is a time to believe that the life we live, and the lives of our families and friends are infused with purposeful meaning from above.
Christmas is the re-collection of (Christ authenticated) L O V E!
