Country music had a big year in 2013 with a lot of new artists as well as seasoned veterans releasing CDs all year long. What are the top five “Must Have” CDs for the country music fan on your Christmas List?
Randy Travis’ “Influence Vol. 1: The Man I Am” ranks number one on the list of “Must Have” CDs for any country music fan for Christmas. Though 2013 was a challenging year for Randy Travis as he faced death after hospitalization for congestive heart failure and a subsequent stroke, “Influence Vol. 1: The Man I Am” ranked as one of the biggest selling country CDs. Travis pays tribute to the country artists who influenced his style of music, including Merle Haggard’s “Someday We’ll Look Back” and “Big Butter and Egg Man” to George Jones’ “Why Baby Why” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” Also included on “Influence Vol. 1: The Man I Am” is Travis’ tribute to George Jones, “Tonight I’m Playing Possum”.
Garth Brooks “Blame It All On My Roots” six CD and 2 DVD boxed set available exclusively at Walmart ranks number two on the “Must Have” CDs on the country music fan’s Christmas list. The eight disc set includes 77 songs, 33 music videos and a 68-page photo booklet. The boxed set also includes a two hour DVD of Garth Brook’s top-rated Vegas one-man show recorded live at the Wynn Resort.
Craig Campbell’s “ Never Regret” ranks number three on the list of country CDs to buy for the country music fan on your Christmas list. Campbell burst on the scene in 2011 and his self-titled CD contains the hits “Family Man” and “Fish”. Campbell released his sophomore CD, “Never Regret,” and the first release, "Outta My Head", spent 56 weeks on the country music charts, peaking at number 15. Craig Campbell flexes his musical chops with “Keep Them Kisses Coming” and “My Baby’s Daddy” but he can also make you tear up with the beautiful ballad “When She Grows Up.”
Dean Brody’s recently released “Crop Circles” ranks number four on the list of country CDs to buy for the country music fan on your Christmas list. Brody is a CCMA award-winning country music artist out of Canada who spent many years song writing in Nashville. Dean Brody’s crisp, clean vocals and incredibly written lyrics should make any country music fan happy. “Crop Circles” contains the hit “Bounty” and the soon to be released title song, “Crop Circles.” Other songs of note on Brody’s seventh studio CD are “Marianne” and “Another Man’s Gold.”
Willie Nelson’s “To All the Girls” ranks number five on the list of CDs country music fans need to have this holiday season. Nelson released the CD full of duets with the best of country music’s female artists to celebrate his 80th birthday. Nelson may be 80-years-old, but he still has it as he sings some of his biggest hits along with the female royalty of country music including Dolly Parton, Rosanne Cash, Emmylou Harris, Loretta Lynn, Wynonna Judd and Alison Krauss.
