On Wednesday evening, Examiner.com attended a fun party at the House of Walker New York. Johnnie Walker celebrated the next step in the art of blending, Johnnie Walker Platinum Label on Oct. 2 to sample this private blend at our exclusive gathering, hosted by Brand Ambassador and Four-time Emmy nominated "Mad Men" actress Christina Hendricks, who gave a formal toast during the event. The voluptuous auburn-haired star looked stunning in a black chiffon dress draped over one shoulder, ruby red lips, closed toed satin pumps and a little purple clutch by her side.
Decorated with old maps, sailboats, artifacts and special edition bottles for over $30,000 in-cased in glass, the venue provided a rich history of the Johnnie Walker legacy. Several serving stations of each label: Double Black and Black, Red, Blue and the newly announced Platinum were placed throughout the soiree. Backed by mixologists. there were huge ice cravings of each individual cube that went into the drinks. Guests could request to have their scotch neat, on the rocks or with a splash of water. Crafted from single malt and grain whiskies, Platinum Label is the most perfectly crafted 18-year-old blended Scotch whisky. Platinum Label speciality cocktails included ‘The Kilt Reviver’ made with Spanish sherry, velvet falernum, fresh lemon juice, maple syrup and aromatic bitters as well as the ‘Folk Hero’ with a blend of French aperitif, white creme de cacao, Spanish sherry, and mole bitters.
When asked how her interest of whiskey came about, Hendricks stated “There's just something different about whisky, especially Scotch – the color, the aroma, it's really alluring….It's something you linger over, it's not something that gets rushed.” She believes “asking for a Scotch whisky makes a statement. You know what you want and how you want it. That confidence is sexy.” Hendricks favorite drink is Johnnie Walker Black Label, on the rocks. After giving a toast that evening, Hendricks announced that she has only one season left on "Mad Men." She plays the ambitious office manager-turned partner Joan Holloway. The seventh and final season of her hit AMC series airs next year. Also, DJ Alex Sensation, a popular DJ in Hispanic radio, represented Johnnie Walker and gave a few words alongside Hendricks.
For those wanting to try the new Johnnie Walker Platinum, the recommended serve is neat or with a few drops of distilled water. The water unlocks the richness of the complex, delicate, smoky blend and releases a range of aromas from tart tangerines to woody almonds creating a deeply satisfying tangy and fruitful flavor profile.
Inspired by the Walker family’s tradition of creating “private blends” for favored customers and company directors to share at exclusive gatherings, Johnnie Walker Platinum Label is the most perfectly crafted 18-year-old blended Scotch whisky John Walker & Sons has ever created. It was an evening of special Platinum Label tastings, incredible whiskies and crafted cocktails.
