Christina Applegate is leaving her NBC show “Up All Night,” according to a Feb. 8 E! News report. “It's been a great experience working on Up All Night,” Applegate said in a statement. “But the show has taken a different creative direction and I decided it was best for me to move on to other endeavors.”
The actress continued, “Working with Lorne Michaels has been a dream come true and I am grateful he brought me into his TV family. I will miss the cast, producers and crew, and wish them the best always.”
Applegate is the lead actress on show, playing alongside Will Arnett. “Up All Night” is built around the couple’s home and work life. According to E! News, the network is facing the difficult task of recasting Applegate’s role.
E! News also reports that NBC had previously announced that the network “would be revamping [Up All Night] by turning it into a multicamera (traditional) format.”
Applegate is not the one exiting the show. Emily Spivy announced she was leaving last month, but no one knows for sure whether or not NBC was prepared for its leading lady to follow. Applegate has always openly admitted the struggles of balancing working on the show versus not being able to spend quality time with her two-year-old daughter, Sadie.
Only time will tell whether the show will meet an unfortunate cancellation fate or grow with a new actress at the helm.
