Imagine…you have 90-seconds to impress four of the biggest stars in the recording industry. Plus, you have one song that can make them turn their massive red chairs around!
Welcome to The Voice!
Will Adam, CeeLo or Christina be able to find the one artist that can stop Blake Shelton’s winning streak? Read on to find out…
After the coaches performed a roaring cover of Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock and Roll,” it was time to get down to business! Up first to face the judges was 29-year-old Kat Robichaud, who dedicated her performance of “I’ve Got The Music in Me” to her late father…who was also a huge fan of the show! Her raw vocals caught the attention of Blake, CeeLo and Christina! The “Forget You” singer stated that she was so fresh, raw and fought hard for her. After hearing his sales pitch, Kat decided to choose CeeLo as her mentor!
17-year-old Caroline Pennell was a little intimidated by performing in front of the superstar quartet. However, the nerves went away after she gave an emotional performance of Ellie Goulding’s “Anything Could Happen” that caught the attention of both Blake and CeeLo. While Blake stated that she was a badass singer, Caroline chose CeeLo to be her mentor!
54-year-old Donna Allen wanted to finally have her dream come true. Before taking a break to raise her son, Donna was the first Black Tampa Bay Buccaneers cheerleader and performed with Gloria Estefan. Donna’s soulful cover of “You Are So Beautiful” oozed so much soul and terrific runs it attracted Christina and Adam. Despite Christina’s pleas and complements, Donna chose to enlist with Team Adam!
La Porte, Texas native Jake Worthington’s friends told him to audition for the show. He gave an intriguing cover of Georgia Satellites’ “Keep Your Hands to Yourself.” While he had a fun time on stage, Jake could not get a coach to turn their chair around. Before leaving the stage, Blake stated that he “screwed the pooch” on this one and told him that he should control his breathing.
Rugby player Matthew Schuler hoped that he could get the attention of a coach when he entered the Blind Auditions. Luckily for Matthew, he caught the attention of all four coaches in ten seconds! As they watched Matthew perform, he showed off a great R&B-Reggae vibe through him. After the performance, Blake gave him a handshake while Christina gave him a hug and said she wanted to work with him. Christina’s sales pitch worked as she scored her first team member of the season.
26-year-old Nic Hawk declared himself to be the male version of the late Amy Winehouse and Jessie J. Nic has a huge theatre background as he performed in 25 musicals in the past seven years but left his showbiz dreams behind when his stepfather suddenly moved out of the house. After helping out his family, Nic turned to The Voice stage to resume his superstar dreams. His unorthodox song choice of Blu Cantrell’s “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!)” was intriguing and caught the attention of Adam and CeeLo. Despite having a crush on him, Nic chose Adam as his mentor.
Full-time stylist and part-time pageant coach Shelbie Z delivered a powerful rendition of “Here for the Party” that caught the attention of Christina, CeeLo and Blake. Her superb vocals and incredible stage presence grabbed my attention and stole the show. While CeeLo and Christina gave it their best, Shelbie and her cowgirl boots walked over to join Team Blake.
33-year-old Josh Logan came to audition so he could make his son’s life better. He decided to perform Alex Clare’s “Too Close” for his 90-second performance that showed off strong vocals and brilliantly brought rock back to the show. Josh caught the attention of Adam, Blake and Christina! While Blake stated that he had a man-crush on him, Josh chose to go with Christina because of her demeanor and wanted to work with someone who meant business!
The final audition of the night belonged to 22-year-old James Wolpert. The former Carnegie Melton student and Apple Store employee surprised everyone with his rendition of Jack White’s “Love Interruption.” All four coaches gave it their all to convince James to join their team…it was Adam that was successful in recruiting him!
Tomorrow night, The Voice returns with a second round of the Blind Auditions!
