Pop singer Christina Aguilera won a special honor at the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday night. She took home the People's Voice award for her incredible singing and put those vocal pipes to work with a moving performance of her ballad, “Blank Page.”
“Thank you so much for this People's Voice award. Wow. When I sing, I believe it is the only time I can be myself and express all of me and who I am. I find a home in music, and I hope my music and my voice allows others to find a home as well. That's why this is so important to me and so special,” she said upon receiving the honor.
During her acceptance speech, Aguilera turned the conversation toward her fans, encouraging them to use their voices to speak out.
“So, people that feel alone or outcast… kids that feel bullied or lost. Remember that you have a voice and that you should use that voice to survive and persevere. This award also means so much as it represents the people. The fans who have always stood by throughout everything,” she added.
Before winning the award, Aguilera sang “Blank Page,” a ballad penned by Rihanna “Diamonds” writer Sia. Backed solely by a piano, she put her big vocals to work during the emotional performance. “The Voice” judge toned down her recent wild looks and donned a white pant suit with platinum blonde locks. It was truly a showing proving her right to the People's Voice award.
Aguilera's “Lotus” album was released in November and peaked at No. 7 on Billboard's albums chart.
