Pop singer Christina Aguilera has scaled the upper reaches of Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart, but not with any of her own material from last year's “Lotus” album. The music chart company revealed its weekly chart on Thursday with Pitbull's “Feel This Moment,” featuring Aguilera, at no. 28 on the Hot 100.
Despite having released last year's commercial pop-oriented “Lotus,” Aguilera has been unsuccessful in yielding a big hit from the record. The album's first single, the raunchy “Your Body,” initially peaked at no. 34 on the Hot 100 chart then disappeared soon after. Her follow-up single, country-pop ballad “Just a Fool,” featuring fellow “The Voice” judge Blake Shelton, hasn't even received the music video treatment. That track hit no. 71 on Billboard.
While “Lotus” and its singles flounder on the charts, Aguilera finds herself nearing the top of the charts again from a feature on Pitbull's “Feel This Moment.” The club banger, which samples a-ha's “Take On Me,” took a quick five weeks to reach its no. 28 peak. That already outpaces any of Aguilera's solo work released since 2008. Her big vocals are still very much bankable. Even though her own material hasn't hit it big, the singer helped Maroon 5 net a no. 1 for both acts when she featured on dance track “Moves Like Jagger” in 2011. Before “Jagger,” the pop golden boys were in a sales slump too.
“Feel This Moment” should progress up the charts as Pitbull and Aguilera filmed a music video for the track earlier this week. Dear RCA, if “Just a Fool” continues to underperform, please unleash electro-pop banger “Let There Be Love” as the next single from “Lotus.” Dance music seems to be a winning sound for Aguilera at the moment.
Aguilera's “Lotus” and Pitbull's “Global Warming” albums were released back in November.
