According to a December 2 article in the NY Times; prosecutors will not seek charges against Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston. Winston was accused of sexually assaulting a young woman; a crime that she reported last December. The accuser had traces of the date rape drug in her system, but no signs of physical trauma.
The article goes on to say that the prosecutor did not feel that his office had enough evidence to secure a conviction.
A 2011 study of college football players by CBS News and Sports Illustrated found over 200 incidents of arrest and other encounters with the law. Their study also revealed that few if any schools invest in background checks for student athletes.
Christians viewed the decision by the state attorney as unfair.
“According to the Holy Bible, God is not a fan of double standards. The date rape drug and DNA should have been sufficient to get her a day in court. Instead, athletes will continue to think themselves bigger than the law, and entitled to whatever they want.”
The state attorney stated that football had no bearing on his decision.
