Not long ago, Comedy Central censored the depiction of the Islamic prophet Mohammad from their hit show South Park because a few Muslim extremists were so offended that they “warned” the South Park created could be killed. Now several Christian groups are feeling left out.

Comedy Central recently announced their plans to develop a thirty minute comedy cartoon called “JC” which depicts Jesus as an everyman trying to escape from his father’s shadow. This depiction, which seems to have more to do with parenting than religion, has offended several Christian groups. Now, the Family Research Council, the Catholic League, Parents Television Council, The American Alliance of Jews and Christians, and Radio host and Glenn Beck wannabe Michael Medved have come together to form a group called “Citizens Against Religious Bigotry.

On Thursday June 3rd, the group released a statement calling for advertisers to boycott Comedy Central over depictions of Jesus. Their website specifically mentions the recent controversy over the depiction of Mohammad as a catalyst for this push to censor the depiction of Jesus.

Here is a video on their website with clips of Jesus from Comedy Central shows… most from South Park:

I guess now that they saw that CC will cave in to the demands of extremists, the Christofascists will try to play their 'offended' card, too!

  • Azadeth 1 year ago

Yup, this is what happens when you puss out. Even just once. Then every jerk who smells blood in the water will line up to take a big wet bite out of you.

The even more ironic thing is that South Park predicted this very reaction in their two part "Cartoon Wars" episode. The kids said that once you pull one episode for offending one group of people, then another group will come forward, and another, until the show is canceled and freedom of speech is tossed in the crapper.

that was a pretty hilarious excerpt of Comedy Central content!

Also bigotry is for HATING a religion. Not making fun of it..

"Irrational suspicion or hatred of a particular group, race, or religion" - So basically the group that and its members is actually the bigots, because they hate how tolerant we are of them.

I guess there is nothing that offends Theophobes except Christ.

I'm torn. Are we supposed to give them brownie points for not threatening violence like the Muslims did? I agree with Azadeth - you cave in to one group trying to suppress freedom of speech then some other group will try to join in.

You know what? Maybe *I'M* offended that our right to criticize and yes, even mock religion is being threatened. Excuse me, but human rights are just as important to me as your religion is to you. And I say that to both the Christians and the Muslims and to anyone else who doesn't understand the concept of free expression.

    haha it's fun

  • Incredulous 1 year ago

Diagoras, I guess you must be right. We should also be free to make fun of people of different races. Let's mock them with racial epithets! Who cares if anyone is offended? Free speech is paramount.

While we are at it, let's denigrate homosexuals!

Let's not leave out the disabled either. Maybe we should show them that insensitivity and cruelty are funny! Freedom of speech is most important.

You want to know what I think would be funny? Yelling "fire" in a crowded theater. Imagine how fun that could be.
