According to Matthew 24, there will be a number of signs and warnings associated with the end times. What’s most fascinating about the list is that it does not reference anything resembling global warming. Does this mean that global warming is a fallacy?
There are few issues capable of creating a debate amongst Christian’s like global warming. There are those who believe that there is no such thing as global warming; those who believe that it (global warming) is real; but not at all related to spirituality, and those who believe that global warming is both real, and spiritual.
According to Euro News, global warming is not a fictitious concept. Its data suggests that 2012 was one of the 10 warmest years in over a decade. Data collected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shows that all 12 years in the 21st Century are amongst the 14 warmest years ever recorded.
The debate does not end there.
The house becomes “divided” when global warming is considered a spiritual sign. Said one Christian:
“Global warming, or whatever you want to call it, is referenced in the Bible. One of the plagues mentioned in Exodus was hail and fire. Second Peter says the earth will be destroyed by fire. If that does not attest to the certainty of global warming; nothing will.”
Those who believe that global warming is a sign of man’s destructiveness, and not a sign of times, point to the book of Matthew as evidence.
“In Matthew 24, Jesus speaks to a number of signs; but heat is not one of them. In fact, He (Christ) spoke of winters being a more challenging time. That, to me, says that global warming does not belong in spiritual conversations. I’m not saying that it isn’t an issue; but it has nothing to do with the end of times.”
