As Christians are celebrating this fourth Sunday in Advent, they can look back and remember how Jesus Christ was sent from God to come to earth and be born as a man to Mary and Joseph in fulfillment of many Bible prophecies.
These prophecies were made over thousands of years giving God’s people hope that God would send His Messiah that would make it possible for sinful and unholy people to be reconciled and have a close relationship with our holy God.
God worked hard at bringing about the right conditions in the world so that those prophecies could be fulfilled. Then, “when the fullness of time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman” (Galatians 4:4 NASB) to come to earth as the first stage in completing God’s plan for the spiritual redemption of mankind.
This plan involved Jesus coming to earth, being born as a man to Joseph and Mary, growing up, and living a perfect life without breaking any of God’s laws so that He could become the perfect Passover sacrifice and take the punishment of death that everyone who broke God’s laws deserved. Then three days after Jesus died on the cross God raised Him up from the dead to show that Jesus really had completed God’s redemptive plan.
As the result of Jesus completing God’s redemptive plan, those people who accept God’s invitation to ask God to forgive them for breaking God’s laws and then ask Jesus Christ to become their personal Savior; they will be forgiven by God for breaking His laws, have the spiritual death sentence removed they deserved for breaking God’s laws, be made apart of God’s spiritual kingdom of light, made God’s newly restored creation, and be sent the power of the Holy Spirit to live inside of them to give them the ability to live according to God’s principles of living found in the Bible.
When Christians daily study the Bible to learn God’s principles and talk to God in prayer about their problems, they can develop a close relationship with God that will help them overcome the many problems that they will face during the rest of their journey of life.
Another aspect of remembering how many prophecies that Jesus fulfilled when He came to earth the first time is that just as God sent Jesus to come to earth” in the fullness of time” (Galatians 4:4) to begin God’s redemptive plan, then God will also send Jesus back to earth to establish God’s kingdom on earth at just the right time in fulfillment of many Bible prophecies.
