The idea of Hollywood and Christianity might seem like an oxymoron to some, but there are quiet a few stars there who profess to be Christian. Far from the stereotype of the right-wing leaning Republican, most are just normal people whose faith is an important part of their life.
For this list, we chose just a few that seem interesting. Basically, if a person claims to be a Christian, we took their word for it, there really is no other criteria. We tried to find some of the most successful, and there are several lists out there.
Some of quiet about their faith, while others wear it on their sleeve. Some are outspoken, and some make it part of what they do in Hollywood.
Here is our list of some of the most successful Christians in Hollywood.
Tyler Perry. Writer and actor Tyler Perry is atop Belief.net's list of the most powerful Hollywood types who are Christians. Perry made the big time with his 2005 hit, "Diary of a Mad Black Woman." Since then he has produced "Madae's Family Reunion," and "Daddy's Little Girls."
Patricia Heaton. Starred in Everybody Loves Raymond, and won two Emmys. She recently toured with a Christian comedy group called "Thou Shall Laugh." She is in a new sitcom with Kelsey Grammer.
Denzel Washington. Star of many movies and winner of two Oscars. Washington talked about his faith in an article recently in Christian Post.
A couple of young stars in Hollywood, Justin Beiber and Selena Gomez, both say they are Christians.
Evangeline Lilly. She became famous for her role as the lead character, Kate Austen, on the show Lost. She has made several movies since then. She is also known to use "colorful" language, which she says has resulted in her being called a "walking oxymoron."
Kirk Cameron. Cameron was a star on Growing Pains for years, and now makes Christian films.
Chuck Norris. Norris, of Walker Texas Ranger" fame is also an outspoken Christian. He is also active politically.
Jane Fonda. Also known as Hanoi Jane, she made a lot of enemies in the 60s with her anti-war protests. She became a Christian in 2001 and now lives in Georgia.
Stephen Baldwin. Youngest of the Baldwin family of actors, this Baldwin has embraced evangelical Christianity in recent years. He was raised Catholic and returned to faith through the influence of a Brazilian housekeeper.
Kathy Lee Gifford. Best known for her 15 year run with Regis on the TV talk show.
Kristin Chenoweth. Stage, screen and television actress. Outspoken Christian. She starred in a show called, Good Christian Babes, that managed to irritate Christians as well as the the gay community at the same time.
