Christiana teen alleged to have admitted killing family dog

A Christiana, Tenn. teenager was arrested by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office on Friday and charged with aggravated animal cruelty in the death of the family's Boxer dog reported wsmv.com.

The dog was found hidden behind a tub in a barn with stab wounds, head trauma, and bleeding. Authorities stated the "dog suffered greatly."

Neighbors are shocked and have no idea why the youth, who admitted to killing the dog, would do such a heinous deed.

Research has continued to show that active cruelty against animals can be a sign of serious psychological issues and a precursor to more acts of violence - often against humans. While not all animal abusers wind up being serial killers, it is important to take each case seriously.

Because of the minor's age, his name will not be published. The teen remains in the Juvenile Detention Center pending a hearing.
