Often in Christian music, one will start to hear the influence of the secular music scene. This was more evident when the subgenre Christian Rock was trying to maintain a footing in popular Christian music. Now it seems that Christian Rock has become the norm for high-energy Jesus music, if you listen to contemporary Christian Music radio. Then, when hip-hop was ruling the charts, Christian Pop was reflecting that in the heavy use of beats for certain songs. However, there seems to be another element seeping in that has already become a mainstay of poular radio stations: Synth-Pop.
This is not to say that Synth-Pop hasn't been around for quite some time. In fact, in some ways for secular music, this is a return to form of some of the popular music from the 1980's! This type of music has regained a new resurgance thanks to the likes of Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Katy Perry, T-Pain and Rihanna, who all use some form of synth, club-ready beats and/or some auto-tuning to redefine popular music for the 2000's.
Now, thanks to the hit songs by Beckah Shae (Los Angeles native and OC resident), Kerrie Roberts and Shonlock (who currently has the #1 single on the Billboard Christian radio chart right now), those elements are surging in Christian music as well.
