The Aquabats are ringing in the holidays with a special Christmas installment of The Aquabats! Super Show, and recently BFTV exchanged a few words with MC Bat Commander himself, Christian Jacobs, to find out what exactly an Aquabats Christmas is like.
What do we need to know about "Christmas With The Aquabats"? "It's important to know that Christmas is a forbidden word in some villages, cities, planets and countries. We're all fighting for the freedom of Christmas across the Universe!" Christian told us. "It's also important to understand why Christmas is so special to our little Ricky Fitness. I mean jeez, he got presents from Santa…EVERY CHRISTMAS!!"
He also clued us in to a few particular highlights of the episode: "When Ricky sings his little heart out about how much he loves Christmas, it's enough to make a grown man cry," he continued. "I am also really proud that no animals were actually harmed during the filming of the Christmas special. Animals actually harmed human actors, so everything is good and well in the multiverse. "
So now that there's been a Christmas special, can we expect an Aquabats New Year's special, Valentine's Day special, or an Arbor Day special, even? "For serious! We need to represent all the holidays in fresh and incredible narrative ways!" quipped Christian. "I think The Aquabats! Super Show is kind of like a holiday in itself. It's like a holiday from all the reality shows out there. It's a chance to take a vacation from all the train wreck TV 'reality' that gets spread all over our life toast like vegemite.
"Maybe we should petition the government to start an Aquabats! Super Show holiday so that we can eventually make an episode about our own national holiday!" he theorized. "...There's another task for my bucket list!"
Aside from the Christmas special, The Aquabats have plenty of other things on their plate. Season two of their series recently finished airing on The Hub, which Christian was quite enthused about. "We hold the record for the best five-episode season ever made," he told us. "I think every episode was worth three episodes, so were that to be a normal batch of shows, our season would be the equivalent of fifteen episodes of any other regular television program. So we're pretty proud of that."
And then there's this great news: "We are going to go be a band again this coming year!" he revealed. "2014 marks the twenty-year anniversary of The Aquabats! So look for us at an Elks Lodge or Taco Bell parking lot near you!"
Even though the group has been together for two decades, Christian said he doesn't necessarily get recognized when he's out of his Bat Commander costume. "Every now and then someone will recognize me and give me a high five or something," he explained. "A few months ago, I was eating lunch with some pals and the waiter came up and said, 'I just wanted you to know I've been listening to The Aquabats since I was eight years old and I'm twenty-four, so, thanks for helping me grow up!' I was flattered and felt really old at the same time. Seriously, it was very cool and weird!"
'Cool and weird' is also a phrase that could definitely describe The Aquabats. So as they head off on their holiday adventure, what's on Christian's Christmas wish list? It's pretty simple: "Another fifty-six episodes of the greatest rock 'n' roll superheroes who are out of shape and drive in a TARDIS-like motorhome that looks like a spaceship and fight monsters and aliens to save the world...in the world!"
The Aquabats! Super Show Christmas special "Christmas With The Aquabats" airs today at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET on The Hub. For more information on The Aquabats, be sure to visit their website (theaquabats.com) and follow them on Twitter (@theaquabats).
