"Fifty Shades of Grey" fans got some news on Sunday from screenwriter Kelly Marcel when she revealed the film will likely be rated NC-17. The debate began to rage over what exactly should be seen on the big screen but the topic quickly turned. The ever present question of who should be cast as Christian Grey once again dominated. On Jan. 7 the newest poll results were revealed by 50 Shades Casting with Ian Somerhalder again slipping in popularity, even as the actor promotes himself for the part.
Somerhalder, 34, is showing his charitable side while keeping his name in the running for the role of Christian Grey. The actor solicited donations for his foundation, ISF, via Twitter by offering a fan his copy of "Fifty Shades of Grey." The actor tweeted, "win my personal copy of 50 Shades with a personal note :)." The most intriguing aspect of the giveaway? Somerhalder will reveal his favorite part of the book by inscribing his note in that section. The lucky winner will have a true gem if the "Vampire Diaries" star is cast in the upcoming film. Yet the newest poll results show that fans do not really want Ian Somerhalder, or at least not his body type.
The Twitter account @50ShadesCasting was aiming for an accurate read on what body type fans want for Christian Grey. Surprisingly, Ian Somerhalder and his group of "less toned, less defined" bodies were the least popular. The winning group consisted of "supremely toned and defined" torsos, with Henry Cavill topping the entire poll. The future Superman, 29, was named the hottest rising star in 2013 recently and has received very positive feedback from fans. 50 Shades casting admitted that these poll results, like many others, "mean absolutely nothing" and will "have no baring on who is cast. That's totally up to the director." What they do offer is an insight into what fans want to see on screen. Ian Somerhalder could easily transform his body for this role, as many actors do, yet his current state is not what fans are looking for in their ideal Christian Grey.
