Christian country artist Randy Travis arrested for drinking in front of church

Christian and country music artist Randy Travis was arrested on February 6, 2012 for public intoxication.  According to a police report  obtained by TMZ, the singer was seated in his parked vehicle outside of the First Baptist Church  located in Sanger, Texas.  Officer Carl Parker stated in the report that he spotted a suspicious vehicle while patrolling the area.  Upon approaching the car, he noticed a man sitting at the wheel with an open bottle of wine on the passenger seat.  When the officer asked the suspect’s name, he replied Randy Travis.  Officer Parker stated he immediately detected the odor of alcohol emanating from Randy Travis’ breath and described the Christian gospel and country artist’s speech as slurred.

Officer Parker reported he called for backup and stated Officer Bishop soon arrived on the scene.  Randy Travis could not produce forms of identity and was unaware of his location.  When the officers asked Mr. Travis to step out of the vehicle, his coordination was off and he stumbled upon walking.  It was then that Officer Carl Parker placed Randy Travis under arrest and took him to the Denton County Jail where he was booked for public intoxication.  According to police records, the 52-year-old singer was released at 7:40 a.m., February 6, 2012.
