LOS ANGELES, Calif.–New Line Cinema is in talks with Ice Cube to write, produce and star in the fourth installment of the Friday series that could mark the return of actor Chris Tucker according to gossip site, TMZ.
Tommy “Tiny” Lister, who played “Debo” in two of the Friday movies, said Chris Tucker is seriously considering reprising his role as “Smokey, and has been in talks with Ice Cube.
The burly actor said that Tucker even flew him out on a private jet recently to discuss the possibility of getting the original cast back together.
Tucker, who gained superstardom playing the pot-smoking neighbor in the original 1995 film, vowed he would never do another Friday movie after the original because his personal life disagreed with the character's smoking habit.
Tucker’s financial woes over the years may have played a part in his decision to try and revive the character for the fourth upcoming film.
Other sources said this could be an attempt on Tucker’s part in trying to mount a comeback, since his has been missing from the film world since Rush Hour 3 in 2007.
Lister told TMZ that Tucker and Cube are set to meet next week to discuss the movie and his role…adding, “This is gonna be a big one.”
Deadline.com confirmed Lister’s comments, reporting that New Line is in talks with Ice Cube, who would not only star in the new film, but write and produce as well. While the site also confirmed that Ice Cube does want Tucker back, it is still not a done deal.
