In a new interview with Billboard, Yes bassist Chris Squire said that it's not impossible the band might one day work with original lead vocalist Jon Anderson again.
When Anderson's health forced him to come off the road a few years ago, Yes began touring with a new singer, Benoit David, who had previously fronted a Yes tribute band called Close to the Edge. The band released a new studio album titled Fly From Here last year, marking David's first studio album with Yes as well as the return of producer Trevor Horn and keybooardist Geoff Downes, who had previously worked with the Drama-era Yes in the early 1980s.
Squire brushed aside Anderson's public criticism of the new work. "I know he said he didn't care for the album, but he wasn't involved," he noted. "Nobody expected he'd get the same enjoyment out of it that we are."
Even so, he said he's "never ruled out the idea of working with Jon again...but right now the task at hand is promoting Fly From Here, and it definitely will be for this year."
Squire is also set to release a new project called Squackett, a collaboration with former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett. The pair expect to release the album in the spring and are considering a fall tour.
