Football players have been popping up lately in the media with quite a few offenses involving domestic violence. Adding to the list of violent behavior involving a domestic situation is Chris Rainey a running back with the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to TMZ on Thursday, Jan. 10 Chris Rainey was arrested fro allegedly slapping his girlfriend in the face.
The domestic violence situation happened in Florida where Chris Rainey was involved in an argument with his girlfriend over his cell phone. Apparently the situation escalated and Chris Rainey has been accused of slapping the woman in the face.
Police officials received a 911 emergency call from witnesses who stated they saw Chris Rainey attacking his girlfriend when she took his cell phone.
The girlfriend also tried to lock herself in her roommates car in order to escape from Chris Rainey. However, according to witness reports Rainey dragged his girlfriend out of the passenger seat before she could lock the door slapping her in the process. The couple eventually fell to the ground and Chris Rainey was able to grab the cell phone out of her purse which caused them to fall again.
Although neither Chris Rainey or his girlfriend appeared to have any visible physical injuries he was arrested and charged with one count of simple battery, a misdemeanor, and he's currently in custody.
It remains to be seen what will happen between Chris Rainey and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Recently Chad Johnson was dropped from the Miami Dolphins due to a headbutting incident between him and his ex-wife Evelyn Lozada. Chris Rainey could ultimately face the same fate as Chad Johnson.
