Chris Pratt cast as the lead in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

It has finally happened. Earlier today James Gunn (“Slither”), director of the upcoming Marvel film “Guardians of the Galaxy,” posted to his Facebook that he would be leaving tomorrow for a 9-month trip to London to work on the new film.

This lead me to believe some important casting news would be hitting the web soon, and Collider has learned of a huge piece of news today.

Apparently Chris Pratt (“Moneyball”), who is usually known for his more comedic side (like in “10 Years”), has picked up the much sought after role of Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord).

The lead role is of a character born from a human mother and an alien father, and he is a master strategist and combat expert who wears an ability-enhancing suit and pilots a psychically-linked ship.

Pratt beat out an incredible list of actors all vying for the role including Joel Edgerton (“Warrior”), Eddie Redmayne (“Les Miserables”), and John Krasinski (“The Office”), and his selection was probably aided by the success of the Oscar nominated “Zero Dark Thirty.”

Expect more casting news for the upcoming summer blockbuster in the near future.
