Chris Pine (Kirk from last summer’s “Star Trek”) is reportedly in early negotiations to take over Bradley Cooper’s role in the Fox buddy comedy “This Means War.” Cooper dropped out of the project in February over scheduling conflicts with “The Hangover 2.” Cooper reportedly had creative concerns regarding the script as well.
Pine would play opposite Reese Witherspoon in a story revolving around two best buddy spies who come to blows over mutual romantic interests in Witherspoon’s character. The buddy role has yet to be cast, but recent rumors point to actor Seth Rogen.
Considering Cooper’s script concerns and the fact that “War’s” been gestating at Fox for over a decade—burning through multiple rewrites and screenwriters—Pine might want to tread lightly. Worse (worse to me, anyway), McG has been signed to direct. McG has yet to direct anything for the big screen that I liked. I’ve a sneaking suspicion that “This Means War” won’t be the first.
Tread lightly indeed Mr. Pine.
