The Southern Open 2012 season opened with anxious Pro anglers retting to get a bang on the bass on Harris Chain. Chris Lane Guntersville Alabama 72-11 swooped down in on the lead, no holds barred bringing in twenty pound bags each day. Clifford Pirch Payson Arizona happily took second place with a 58-1 haul.
Lane used a variety of techniques and baits citing, sometimes this fish want to see it all, they want you to show them everything you have and make you work for it. Well it worked allright and if tweenty pounds a day is what all the work added it up, it was more like tournament play, and it got him the first spot in the Bassmaster Classic 2013.
This was Lane's third win at first place, the Florida sun and wind seem to be always in his favor. The bass definitely like schooling up where ever Chris was casting his 7-inch Gambler Sweebo's, Gambler Cane Toads and the Gambler Big Easy, and a chartreuse Luck-E-Strike RC2 crankbait.
Avery McCormick Mobile Alabama was leading co-angler for the first two days and then it came down to the weigh-in and Micheal Bradford of Scottsboro Alabama with 27-9, $35,000 and a tournament Triton Boat.
