Chris Kyle shot: Author of 'American Sniper' killed at gun range in Texas

Chris Kyle, a former U.S. Navy SEAL was one of two people shot and killed at a North Texas shooting range, Saturday, according to a Feb. 3 Fox News report.

Fox News reports that Earth County Sheriff Tommy Bryant told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that 38-year-old Kyle was shot by a suspected gunman Eddie Ray Routh, around 3:30 p.m. 25-year-old Routh reportedly opened fire on Kyle and another man before fleeing the scene in a pickup truck belonging to one of the victims.

Bryant said the suspect was arrested and taken into custody five hours later. The identity of the other shooting victim has not been released. According to Fox News, Kyle who is credited with the largest number of confirmed sniper kills was married with two children and wrote the New York Times bestselling book, “American Sniper,” about his experiences in Iraq.

Fox reports that the former navy seal received multiple valor awards, including five Bronze Stars with Valor and two Silver Stars, according to US military records.
