Chris Kyle, former Navy SEAL sniper and author shot dead

Chris Kyle, 38, noted "American Sniper" author and former U.S. Navy SEAL was shot dead yesterday at Rough Creek Lodge's gun range in Texas, approximately 50 miles southwest of Fort Worth. Another man, Chad Littlefield, 35, was also shot dead at the shooting range.

According to witnesses at the gun range, a gunman reportedly began firing at Kyle and Littlefield Saturday around 3:30 p.m. The shooter ended up fleeing the scene in a pickup truck belonging to one of his victims according to USA Today.

Although the motive for the shootings is still unclear, police arrested the 25-year-old shooter, Eddie Ray Routh, in Lancaster, Texas, just southeast of Dallas. CNN reported that Routh was arraigned on two counts of capital murder.

Kyle, a former sniper penned a best-selling book "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History," wherein he detailed his 150-plus sniper kills of insurgents during his time as a Navy SEAL from 1999 - 2009.

A friend of Kyle’s, Jason Kos, said:

"He was a man of incredible character, he led by example.”

"He always stopped to take time to talk to whoever was around him. Just incredibly humble, very funny as well." ~ CNN
