Chris Kluwe calls Vikes coach 'bigot', warns NFL

The Minnesota Vikings are looking for a new head coach and today, former punter Chris Kluwe scorched a potential candidate, the Vikes' special teams coach, Mike Priefer.

Deadspin.com posted Kluwe's accusations about Priefer, now-fired head coach Leslie Frazier as well as the team's general manager Rick Spielman.

The former punter would like his views made known now that Spielman is in the process of sorting through candidates to replace Frazier, one of whom he fears will be Priefer.

In case you aren't aware of Chris Kluwe's recent history, here is a brief summary.

Kluwe was cut from the Vikings prior to the 2013 season. In 2012 his numbers were not materially different from prior years, but his social issue activism was off the charts.

Chris Kluwe is open and public about his support of marriage equality, writing pieces published in various types of media and speaking on the issue when radio stations call and ask for interviews.

It began when he was approached to help defeat a proposed law in Minnesota that would have defined marriage as "between one man and one woman." The measure was defeated and same sex marriage is now legal in the state.

In the take-down piece in Deadspin - make no mistake about what this is- Kluwe argues that Priefer is a bigot, a vocal one at that and should be denied any further career advancement in the NFL or any level where he coaches young men.

He accuses Leslie Frazier and Rick Spielman of being cowards who allowed Priefer to, allegedly, berate Kluwe for his public statements of support of gay marriage.

An example of what Priefer had to say: "We should round up all the gays, send them to an island, and then nuke it until it glows,"

He dressed Kluwe down in public as well as private and it did not stop after the former punter told Frazier that owner Zygi Wilf said:

"Chris, I'm proud of what you've done. Please feel free to keep speaking out. I just came from my son's best friend's wedding to his partner in New York, and it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen."

Kluwe's Deadspin piece goes into excruciating detail of the 2012 season and post-season leading up to his termination by the Vikings.

He concludes by saying the NFL does not have an institutionalize homophobia problem. It has a Mike Priefer problem and perhaps others exist who have not been exposed as the "bigots" Kluwe claims of Priefer.

Chris Kluwe never got a job for the 2013 season and knows his NFL days are done. For those who claim that only anti-gay marriage positions get people fired in this country, Kluwe has a surprise for them.
