Chris Jericho opens mainstream doors for WWE, Ring return doubtful

With his appearance on the most recent season of "Dancing With The Stars", Chris Jericho not only opened doors into the American mainstream for himself, but he also opened them for the WWE which is striving to become a legitimate entertainment company.  On Monday, Jericho spoke with The Sun, a UK publication, about the mainstream attention he received, perception of being a pro-wrestler and a return to the WWE. According to The Sun, Jericho made the following comments:

"I think it helped their perception because they (WWE) are trying to get in the mainstream as well. And there's nothing more mainstream than Dancing with the Stars. It's the number one show in the country. It raises your recognition factor right off the bat. Five million people watch Raw, but 22 million people watch Dancing with the Stars."

Every athlete who has participated on DWTS has received tremendous exposure and recognition beyond their respective sports. Jericho's participation, although being eliminated, still gave him a platform unlike any other. His modest success on the show will definitely open doors for future WWE performers to get a look at being on the show. Can you imagine The Rock being on there?

WWE signs another Lucha star from Mexico, Former nemesis of Sin Cara

The WWE has boldly declared a few months ago that they're not a wrestling company anymore but a legit entertainment company that is looking to expand into other entertainment ventures. The WWE doesn't even refer to itself as wrestling but as entertainment. In fact, 2 months ago, the WWE banned announcers from describing their product as "wrestling" or "sports entertainment" for terms like "action soap opera" and "entertainment".

As for Jericho, he has plenty of other entertainment opportunities, including touring with his rock band 'Fozzy', that will delay any return to the WWE ring which is unfortunate for all of the Jericho fans. In fact, Chris made the following comments about a WWE return: "Going back to wrestling is the last thing on my mind right now."
