Chris Evans offered role of Captain America

After a grueling search for the man who would be fit to hold Captain America's shield, it has been reported that the lead role in the upcoming comic book film has been offered to Chris Evans.

The forthcoming movie has been the talk of Hollywood, as it seems nearly every hot young actor in town has been reading for the part. Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Scott Porter, Wilson Blethel, Mike Vogel, John Krasinski, Chace Crawford, Garrett Hedlund, Dane Cook and Sebastian Stan have all been reportedly been in the running for the film that is way past its March 1st deadline of casting the lead role.

Evans is not a stranger to comic book films having most recently portrayed Johnny Storm in the two most recent Fantastic Four movies.

With Captain America cast, the next job will be finding his leading lady and early reports indicate that Keira Knightley, Emily Blunt and Alice Eve are among the candidates.

Filming is scheduled to start in June with a June 11, 2011 release date already lined up.
