Chris Evans has officially accepted Marvel's offer to play the Sentinel of Liberty for 9 films. One of Marvel's flagship characters, Captain America is the leader of the Avengers (Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man . . .and possibly Ed Norton returning as Bruce Banner/Hulk?) and has one of the more interesting stories. Steve Rogers began as a sickly young patriot with a desire to serve his country during World War II. Rogers was rejected from the army, but was accepted for Project: Rebirth, and became America's super soldier.
Captain America's nemesis is still in talks for casting, but the main candidate is currently Hugo Weaving.
The First Avenger: Captain America, is due out July 11, 2011 and will be followed by the Avengers, as well as various planned sequels.

God I hope he doesn't mess this up. I hope all of marvel doesn't mess this up. It's ridiculous with what they had to do with the whole spider-man thing although everyone can agree the hulk was a good move but please don't put yourself in a bad position with this movie. you have one shot to give America the true role model it needs. whether it is right or wrong aesthetically, may it be about what the people stand for and his embodiment of that. Please, please dear god, don't make him gush. as for Hugo Weaving... good choice, no complaints or begging there.
