Chris Cornell and My Chemical Romance rock Voodoo Festival

Sporuting long hair and a beard once again, Chirs Cornell returned his grunge roots when Soundgarden took the stage at City Park last night, in what was a continuation of live performances, including one in Dallas the night before. They plowed through a set of their dense brand of alternative rock, alternating between hits like "Pretty Noose" while also playing lesser-known songs such as "Pretty Tendrils."

They followed up on My Chemical Romance, who played for an hour. Decked out in their Halloween costumes, Gerard Way was in charismatic form despite the freezing cold, urging the crowd to sing along with them a sthey belted out their hits. Since MCR is a bit more current they seemed in touch with the crowd. Soundgarden, meanwhile, took some time to find their groove, perhaps as a result of not being together for a while.

The Seattle foursome haven't performed in New Orleans since 1996, which Cornell sarcastically recalled getting pulled over by cops and figuring they "all died from heart attacks or ezcema" before noting a set at Tipitina's made up for it. The event was insanely crowded and yours truly barely even had room to move. But Way and Cornell made up for it with their exciting sets, in a first day of Voodoo that likely didn't dissapoint attendees.
