According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, it appears that Chris Cooper has signed on to play Norman Osborn in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Rounding out a cast of villains that already includes Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as the Rhino, the addition of Cooper as Osborn exponentially increases the likelihood that fans will be seeing the Green Goblin in the franchise.
Though not prominently featured on the big screen, Norman Osborn's presence was strongly felt throughout the first film, particularly in the halls of Oscorp Industries. Fans may remember that hints were dropped that the character was currently afflicted with some sort of disease, allowing him to remain out of the public (and moviegoers) view for the duration of the film. Of course, the fact that he'll be showing his face in the sequel doesn't necessarily mean that the character will be making his turn to the dark side in the upcoming film. Odds are that culmination of the sequel's storyline will shift the direction of the films so that Green Goblin will become the primary villain for the third film.
In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
Directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Colm Feore, Shailene Woodley, Sally Field and Chris Cooper and will arrive in theaters on May 2, 2014.
