"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" has signed another major cast member -- and prospective villain.
The Hollywood Reporter reported Wednesday reported that Oscar-winning actor Chris Cooper ("Adaptation") has been signed to play Norman Osborn in the film.

Osborn's alter-ego is the Green Goblin," although the Reporter said it wasn't clear if the villain would appear in the movie. The film already has two villains: Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Paul Giamatti (Rhino).
Director Marc Webb (interview) and stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are all coming back for the sequel to the 2012 summer blockbuster.
Dane DeHaan ("Lawless") will also star as Osborn's son, Harry, and Shailene Woodley ("The Descendants") will play Mary Jane Parker.
"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is set for May 2, 2014, release.
