Marc Webb’s “Amazing Spider-man 2” has found its’ Norman Osborn in Oscar-winning actor Chris Cooper according to a report Feb. 27 at the Hollywood Reporter. Cooper will join Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the sequel to 2012’s “Amazing Spider-man.” The movie is set for release on May 2, 2014.
Norman Osborn enters Peter Parker’s life as a mentor, but in comic book history he is soon to be revealed to be Spider-man’s archenemy, the Green Goblin.
The character was played by William Dafoe in the 2002 film “Spider-man” directed by Sam Raimi. In that movie the Green Goblin’s comic look was abandoned in favor of a robotic suit of armor. Many fans hope that director Marc Webb will stay truer to the source material this time around.
It remains to be seen whether or not Norman will turn evil in this installment or if that story arc will be saved for a third film in the franchise. It was previously announced that “Django Unchained” star Jamie Foxx has been cast as Spider-man’s nemesis Electro. Paul Giamatti will also feature in the movie as the villainous Rhino.
One thing fans are sure of is that this casting cannot be good news in the long run for Emma Stone's character Gwen Stacy. In the comics one of the most pivotal moments in Spider-man's life is Stacy's death at the hands of the Green Goblin.
