Governor of New Jersey Chris Christie (aka Joey Bottoms) is so upset that the Speaker of the House of Representative for the United States of America didn’t return his phone calls concerning disaster relief that he thought it necessary to go to the press and give a bitch-boy demonstration.
New Jersey has no money to do the things that FEMA could not or would not do for whatever reason. Private insurance is also inadequate for the same whatever reason. Private donations along with a ridiculous Bon-Jovi concert were useless. Bottoms needs more, in fact $60 billion more, that’s equal to 30 space shuttles. Did New Jersey get hit by a hurricane or were they invaded by the Borg?
So can we finally scrap FEMA altogether? No? Why not? Is it because if we do states could not…what? Does anyone know what FEMA spends money on (they ran out of drinking water two days after Sandy hit) that it becomes necessary for the federal government to step in and spend more?
And how often do Hurricanes hit New Jersey or any other natural disaster? Does the state think that disasters never occur and therefore has no reason to ever plan for it? Even if disasters hit every ten years (it’s longer than that), to budget even a few million would amount to quite a bit over time.
Joey Bottoms is upset and made his grievance public. He’s a “conservative” by the way and feels that state funds to local towns need to be curtailed and he also believes in states’ rights. Now he’s upset with Republicans because they didn’t take time out of their negotiations with his new found buddy President Obama. Hey Bottoms, you can’t expect people to jump when you call, you know. Don’t confuse the rest of the world with pizza delivery.
The Speaker, John Boehner will bring up the relief bill once a new House is sworn in and Bottoms will get his money. Certainly the governor knows this which means all the kvetching he’s showing us is a set up for his next election. He wants people to know he’s his own man and from time to time will buck his party. Oh how I wish Democrats thought that way.
