After signing the bill, the office of Gov. Chris Christie a statement with the following quote from Christie.
"Well my religion says it’s a sin. I mean I think, but for me, I’ve always believed that people are born with the predisposition to be homosexual. And so I think if someone is born that way it’s very difficult to say then that’s a sin. But I understand that my Church says that, but for me personally I don’t look at someone who is homosexual as a sinner.
“His action on this bill is consistent with his belief that people are born gay and homosexuality is not a sin,” the statement added.
Perhaps Chris Christie should have paid attention to the recent fuss made over Pope Francis' interview for World Youth Day. But the simple truth is that a state if being has nothing to do with sin-- only actions are sinful. And, as the Catechism of the Catholic church points out, all are called to chastity, gay or straight
At the end of the day, one has to wonder what is most disturbing about this statement, as there are only two possibilities: that Chris Christie is ignorant or lying to score political points. Either Christie doesn't know about what he claims to be his own faith, or it is possible that he is deliberately setting himself up as standing against "his own church" in an election year?
