Chris Brown under investigation after alleged assault

Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown is being investigated following an alleged assault in a West Hollywood parking lot, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said early Monday.

Deputies responded to a call about a fight involving six males on Santa Monica Boulevard and found the scene clear, but they were told by witnesses that there had been a brief fight over a parking space, according to a statement released early this morning by the Sheriff's Department.

"Deputies talked to witnesses who stated that Chris Brown and the victim were involved in an altercation over a parking space," the statement added. "The altercation allegedly led to Chris Brown punching the victim."

The "victim" wasn't identified, but according to celebrity website TMZ, the altercation also involved singer Frank Ocean, one of the top nominees at the Grammy Awards next month.

Ocean later posted on Twitter that he "got jumped by (Brown) and a couple guys" and suffered a finger cut.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time Brown has been accused of assault right before the Grammy Awards. His attack on singer Rihanna on the eve of the 2009 Grammy Awards overshadowed the show.

More recently, Brown was injured in a brawl last June involving hip-hop star Drake's entourage at a New York nightclub. Although Brown was gone by the time deputies arrived and no arrests were made, the Sheriff’s Department said the investigation is ongoing and Brown would be contacted later.
