He was arrested on felony assault charges early Sunday morning in Washington, D.C. for reportedly assaulting a 20-year-old man who wanted to take a picture with him. Brown and his bodyguard spent the night in jail because they could not see the judge until Monday morning.
When Brown went to court on Monday, and after pleading not guilty, his felony charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. He and his bodyguard were released without bail.
According to a statement from the singer's representative:
"Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility. His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point."
The Washington, D.C., charge could have implications in Los Angeles, where a judge could determine he violated probation in his conviction for assaulting singer Rihanna in 2009.
Brown is due back in a Los Angeles courtroom Nov. 20. At that time, the Washington, D.C. misdemeanor charge will be reviewed to determine the impact it will have on his probation.
