Los Angeles Superior Court judge Patricia Schnegg downgraded the restraining order preventing R&B singer Chris Brown from coming within 50 yards from Rihanna, or 10 yards at entertainment industry events.
On Feb. 22nd the court order was lifted and replaced with an order barring Brown from harassing or annoying Rihanna, but allows the singer to speak to her.
Brown, 21, was charged with assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna with a deadly weapon in 2009. The couple were returning from Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party when an argument turned abusive in the car ride home.
Photos of Rihanna appeared with wounds reportedly show major contusions on both sides of the 20-year-old singer's face, with serious swelling and bruising, including a split lip and a bloody nose, as well as bite marks on one of her arms and several fingers.
Brown was sentenced to five years probation and community service and recently completed a year-long domestic violence course.
The timing of the downgrade comes weeks before the release of Brown’s forthcoming album titled F.A.M.E. (an abbreviation of Fans Are My Everything).
The fourth studio album due for a release March 18 features guests vocals from Lil' Wayne and Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Benny Benassi, Wiz Khalifa, Tyga, Big Sean, Timbaland and Justin Bieber.
There is no confusion just how important this album is to Chris Brown’s career who is on on the comeback trail which so far has been unsuccessful and unwelcome.
Brown’s 2009 Graffiti LP was met with mostly harsh reviews, whether or not it was an emotional backlash to the assault charges, Brown has been on damage control ever since.
During a 2010 Michael Jackson Tribute at the BET Awards Brown sang Jackson's Man in the Mirror and fell to his knees crying during the performance. Later in the evening during an acceptance speech Brown stated "I let y'all down before, but I won't do it again..I promise.” Reviews were mixed on the authenticity of Brown’s emotional outburst once again not letting the singer move forward.
Brown’s career is still stuck in that rented silver Lamborghini in 2009 with minimal advancement while Rihanna has gone on to International fame scoring a fistful of awards in 2010-11 including a BET, American Music Award, Grammy Award, People’s Choice Award, and BRIT Award. The singer has been featured in the Billboard #1 singles chart four times in 2010 with Rude Boy, Love The Way You Lie, What’s My Name, and Only Girl (In The World).
With the restraining order removed, Rihanna, or her management, is signaling to everyone - put it in the past- give Chris a second chance. Love the boy again. Will you?
