Chris Brown ordered by judge to stay in jail

Singer Chris Brown, 24, wearing his orange prison jump suit, was in a Los Angeles courtroom on March 17, and listened as Judge James Brandlin informed him that he’d be staying in jail until at least April 23 – when he’s due back in court before the same judge in connection with his recent misdemeanor assault charge in Washington, D.C.

Brown is supposed to be in D.C. on April 17 to appear at his assault trial there resulting from allegedly punching and breaking the nose of a man trying to take his picture, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Brown was accompanied to court on Monday by his attorney Mark Geragos, who tried to persuade the judge to allow Brown to enter another rehab program, instead of staying in jail. Brown had been kicked out of his previous rehab facility on March 15 and immediately arrested on grounds that he may have violated probation.

Assistant District Attorney Mary Murray said Brown has already been ejected from two rehab programs in the last five months and admittance into another program should not be considered.

The judge also took into consideration a comment Brown is alleged to have made to counselors at his most recent rehab facility that Brown had written on a card:

“I am good at using guns and knives," according to a document read in court.

The contents of that written note by Brown are ultimately what helped get him kicked out of rehab on Friday.

The rehab program told Brown to leave because of that statement and two other rule violations. Brown refused a drug test -- which his lawyer denied -- and he touched elbows with a female patient, according to the document.

All of Brown’s recent legal woes can be traced back to his June 2009 felony assault of then girlfriend Rihanna in Hollywood – which netted him 1,400 hours of community labor - plus the five years of probation which he’s still serving.

Regarding Brown’s prison conditions, TMZ reported that he’s allowed one shower every two days at Men's Central Jail in Los Angeles, where he’s reportedly spending 23 hours of every day in solitary confinement.

If Brown is found guilty and convicted of assaulting the man in Washington who tried to take his picture, he “could be transferred to prison for violation probation in the Rihanna case.”
