Chris Brown lost out for Best Urban Contemporary Album at last night’s Grammy Awards in L.A. to Frank Ocean, and he didn’t seem pleased about it. Brown, 23, was prominently seated up front with on-again girlfriend Rihanna, and remained nailed to his seat when Frank Ocean’s name was called for the win, and the rest of the Staples Center crowd rose to their feet in applause.
TMZ reports that Chris Brown was “totally disrespectful” of 25 year-old Frank Ocean’s Grammy win, noting that other nominee Miguel failed to stand up to congratulate Ocean as well.
While most people stood and applauded Ocean, Brown stayed seated, which just happened to be front and center, and in clear view of the cameras. British singing sensation Adele was seated just in front of Brown, and according to Fox News she seemed to give Chris an earful after his snubbing of Ocean.
Of course in case you hadn’t heard, Chris Brown and Frank Ocean have been quarreling for some time, and it came to a head two weeks ago when the pair threw fists outside a Los Angeles recording studio.
Despite allegedly being attacked by Brown and his entourage, Ocean decided not to pursue criminal charges against him. Perhaps his decision was due to the timing of the Grammy Awards.
Ocean posted to his Tumblr account after the incident a statement that read in part, “I’ll choose sanity. No criminal charges. No civil lawsuit. Forgiveness, albeit difficult, is wisdom. peace, albeit trite, is what I want in my short life. Peace”, according to TMZ.
After the applause for Frank died down last night, and Chris Brown sulked in his seat, Adele cornered him for what looked like a “tense one-on-one”. Cameras couldn’t pick up exactly what Adele said, but judging by both her and Brown’s body language, it wasn't pretty.
The “Rolling in the Deep” singer may have been questioning Chris’ decision to take his romance with Rihanna public at music’s biggest night of the year, four years almost to the day after he assaulted her in his car.
Adele had a good night for herself, leading off the ceremony by winning Best Pop Vocal Performance for “Set Fire to the Rain”, and winning her ninth Grammy for the 007 theme song “Skyfall”.
