When we first heard about "Extreme Weight Loss" a few years ago, we assumed it would be similar to "The Biggest Loser." Wrong. Celebrity trainer Chris Powell, author of "Chris Powell's Choose More, Lose More for Life," uses a holistic blend of psychology, nutrition, fitness science and spirituality to guide one person at a time through a year of complete transformation. It's a health show that interweaves tough love with true love, a reality show that dives into heart-touching emotions rather than drama queen tantrums and a documentary showing the dangers and struggles accompanied by obesity all at the same time. Chris and Heidi recently talked about the new season with "Entertainment Tonight."

"We've totally changed the premise of the show," said Chris. "I mean, before, I used to go out to actually live with out people. Now we bring them to us."

Working closely with Chris is his wife Heidi, a renowned trainer in her own right. She's talked previously about winning her battle with eating disorders, and now, like Chris, she uses carb cycling as a weight loss weapon to take off the pounds and keep them off. Chris also has authored a book about this approach: "Choose to Lose: The 7-Day Carb Cycle Solution" (click for details).

To help the obese men and women featured in the new season get healthy and happy, Doctor Holly Wyatt, a nutritional expert, will work closely with them. And they're not all adults: This season, a 15-year-old named Kate who weighs 265 pounds will get help. "People don't want to be friends with the fat girl," Kate says.

Chris and Heidi are eager to help her. Heidi notes compassionately: "She's 15 years old. There's still a lot of training that she's so open to."

To help participants lose weight safely and maintain their loss, they will spend the first three months of their journey at the University of Colorado's Anschutz Health and Wellness Center, where Dr. Wyatt is medical director.

In addition to his books, Chris has created several fitness DVDs to help you re-create his famous workouts in your own home. They include Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition: The Workout 2011 and Extreme Makeover Weightloss Edition: Bootcamp.
