This fall, the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble (EDE), Detroit's premier contemporary dance company, will welcome guest choreographer Harrison McEldowney, who famously created the 1992 Olympic closing ceremonies.
Known for his athletic and humorous dances, MacEldowney will be in residence with EDE November 1-4, 2011, working with the troop to learn his rib-tickling Dance Sport. This witty satire on competitive sports and professional dance includes a hilarious play-by-play commentary, which fits nicely with EDE’s reputation for contemporary works with a unique sense of fun and playfulness.
‘I enjoy injecting humor into my own work, so it's fun to take on the work of a fellow choreographer who enjoys laughing as much as I do,’ says EDE Artist Director, Laurie Eisenhower.
McEldowney's choreography has been featured in film, television, concert dance, opera, Broadway, off-Broadway, and at the Barcelona Olympics' Closing Ceremonies. He is the inaugural recipient of the Prince Prize and has received the Ruth Page, After Dark, and Choo-San Goh Awards for choreography. McEldowney is a Creative Director for Chicago's Under the Radar and Wilson Dow Group.
The Harrison McEldowney Residency will run November 1 - 4, 2011 at the EDE Center for Dance in Rochester, MI.
