‘Chopped Tournament of Stars: Sports Stars’ on Food Network

Last night's episode of "Chopped" was the first episode of “Chopped All Stars: Sports Stars” presenting four athletes, who will compete against each other where the winner will go against winners of the subsequent rounds to vie for the $50,000 donation to the charity of their choice.

Competing in this episode are: Gold-Medal Olympian diver Greg Louganis playing for Mending Kids International, Olympian Medalist in long jump and heptathlon Jackie Joyner-Kersee playing for the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation, Olympic Medalist and World Cup winner for soccer Brandi Chastain playing for the Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative, and NBA star Charles Oakley is competing for Share Our Strength.

The judges for this episode were: Marc Murphy, Alex Guarnaschelli and Geoffrey Zakarian. The host, as always is Ted Allen.

The first round appetizer mystery box contained: Organic Green Juice, Alligator, Hen-of-the-Woods Mushrooms and Mini Rainbow Marshmallows. Greg made Asian-inspired sautéed alligator using soy sauce, garlic and sesame oil. Jackie made sautéed alligator with mushrooms and peppers using onions, green peppers and chicken stock. Brandi made alligator tender salad with marshmallow green juice dressing using vinegar, lemon and peppers. Charles made breaded alligator with sautéed mushrooms using flour, eggs and red wine. The star eliminated from the first round was Jackie who did not represent the marshmallows and green juice enough.

The entree round contained: Turkey Tenderloin, Double-Yolk Eggs, Pattypan Squash and Finger Limes. Greg made turkey Alfredo with roasted potatoes using linguine, basil and cream. Brandi made seared turkey tenderloin with mashed potatoes and fried squash using sour cream, chives and rosemary. Charles made turkey tenderloin with egg over easy using Worcestershire, potatoes and onions. The star who was "Chopped" in this round was Charles because there was no salt on his plate.

The dessert round included: Liquid Breakfast Drink, Pink Wafer Cookies, Crystallized Ginger and Red Bosc Pears. Greg made ginger ice cream using cream, sugar and cinnamon. Brandi made ice box cake using eggs, flour and sugar.

The winner of the first round "Chopped" Tournament of Stars: Sports Champion was Brandi Chastain.
