Sunday night's episode of "Chopped" offered four more chefs an opportunity to compete for the $10,000 and the very elusive title of a champion. Faced with mystery baskets of the strangest ingredients on this special Halloween episode, they must create something that will appeal to the judges and also show off their culinary skills and creativity in the appetizer, entree and dessert rounds.
The judges for this episode are: Chris Santos, Alex Guarnaschelli and Marc Murphy. The host, as always is Ted Allen.
Competing in this episode are: Terri Wahl, owner and chef of Auntie Em’s Kitchen in Eagle Rock, Calif. who has competed on two other shows and wants to win to redeem herself. Next are Isaiah Frizzel, owner and chef of Pheast underground supper club in Los Angeles, Sharon Singleton, owner of Singlelicous Catering in Staten Island, N.Y. and John Creger, head chef at Gallow Green in New York City.
The first round appetizer mystery box contained: Potato Crisps, Eel, Candy Bats and Coagulated Pig Blood. Sharon made a noodle bowl with pig blood and sautéed vegetables using rice noodles, red peppers and mushrooms. John made bruleed eel on chocolate candy bat blood sauce using chocolate, cucumber and lemon. Isaiah made potato crisp congee using dashi, cornichons and panko breadcrumbs. Terri made butter-fried potato chip eel using butter, eggs and frisee. The chef who was eliminated was John, who left the toxic skin on the eel.
The entree round contained: Gummy Skull, Collard Greens, Sweetbreads and Dehydrated Weaver Ant Eggs. Terri made shredded potato pancake with crunchy sweetbreads using potato, chickpeas and diced tomatoes. Sharon made collard green hash with pan-sauteed sweetbreads using potatoes, milk and sausage. Isaiah made deep-fried sweetbreads using onion, mustard and dried chiles. The chef who was "Chopped" in this round was Isaiah, who did not cook the sweetbreads through.
The dessert round included: Candy Blood, Deviled Eggs, Pate Sucree and Buffalo Chestnuts. Terri made crepes using eggs, flour and butter. Sharon made sugar cookies with deviled egg cream using sugar, raspberries and vanilla extract.
The winner of the $10,000 and "Chopped" champion was Sharon, who won the $1,000 and bragging rights for her excellent and eerie culinary skills.
