Last night's episode of "Chopped" offered four home cooks an opportunity to compete for the $10,000 and the very elusive title of a champion in this episode titled, “Ambitious Amateurs.”
The judges for this episode are: Geoffrey Zakarian, Alex Guarnaschelli and Scott Conant. The host, as always is Ted Allen.
Competing in this episode are: Jackie Khanich, an entertainment attorney from California. Jaime Montalvo who is also seen as Soraya Sobreidad a cable-access cooking host. Tommy Werther, a retired police detective whose career ended when he was hit by a car, is now a stay at home dad. y, Dinah Suhr is a hospital administrator, who won several cooking competitions.
The first round appetizer mystery box contained: Chicken Tenderloins, Paprika Peppers, Fennel and Ginger Preserves. Dinah made Korean Fried Chicken using cayenne, paprika and rice flour. Tommy made chicken fennel and paprika dumpling using soy sauce, fish sauce and pizza dough. Soraya made relleno de papa with chicken using potato and cumin. Jackie made ginger middle eastern chicken salad using coriander, cumin and garlic. Soraya was eliminated from this round because all the ingredients did not come through, and the ginger was left out completely.
The entree round contained: Tikka Masala Sauce, Asian Long Beans, Hanger Steak and Serrano Ham Croquettes. Dinah made tikka masala marinated hanger steak using brown sugar and olive oil. Tommy made cognac-balsamic hanger steak using olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Jackie made tikka masala agnolotti with ground steak filling using ricotta, parmesan and tomatoes. The chef who was "Chopped" in this round was Jackie, who left the steak off her plate.
The dessert round included: Guava Shells in Syrup, Cottage Cheese, Couscous and Candied Chickpeas. Dinah made couscous pudding with chickpea almond crumble using milk, eggs and sugar. Tommy made guava cottage cheese ice cream with caramel sauce using milk, sugar and cream.
The winner of the $10,000 and "Chopped" amateur champion was Dinah, who will use the money to take her mother to Korea.
