Tuesday’s episode of "Chopped" offered four more chefs an opportunity to compete for the $10,000 and the very elusive title of a champion in this episode where the chefs were given items in the three mystery boxes in this episode titled, “Food Truck Fight.”
The judges for this episode were: Scott Conant, Amanda Freitag and Peter Oleyer with host, as always Ted Allen.
Competing in this episode are food truck chefs; James Klayman, owner of Gorilla Cheese NYC, Nong Poonsukwattana, owner of Nong’s Khao Man Gai, in Portland, Oregon, Michael Natiello, owner of Taqueria Autentica in Bloomfield, New Jersey and former owner of Kim Jong Grillin’ Truck Han Ly Hwang.
The first round appetizer mystery box contained: Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Bars, Ground Lamb, Caviar and Empanada Dough. Han made mandu (Korean pot stickers) using garlic, onion powder and shallots. James made Asian lamb empanadas using onion, garlic and red chili flakes. Nong made Thai larb salad with lamb using scallions, cilantro and ginger. Michael made lamb chorizo using thyme, cloves and vinegar. The chef eliminated in this round was Michael because his empanada dough was undercooked.
The entree round contained: Whole Suckling Pig, Red & White Kabob Sauces, Corn Tortillas and Fiddlehead Ferns. Nong made suckling pig Thai curry using scallions, cilantro and ginger. James made pork tacos using shallots, ginger and rosemary. Han made suckling pig lettuce wraps using garlic, scallions and Bibb lettuce. The chef who was "Chopped" in this round was Han because he did not elevate the flavor of the pork.
The dessert round included: Liege Waffles, Mangoes with Spice & Lime, Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Flan. James made waffle-flan bread pudding with ice cream using sugar, milk and heavy cream. Nong made coconut ice cream using heavy cream, sugar and coconut milk.
The winner of the $10,000 and "Chopped" champion was Nong Poonsukwattana, who made her mother proud. Congratulations!
