Last night's circus themed episode of "Chopped" offered four more chefs an opportunity to compete for the $10,000 and the very elusive title of a champion.
The judges for this episode are: Scott Conant, Chris Santos and special guest judge Ron Ben-Israel. The host, as always is Ted Allen.
Competing in this episode are: Steve Yen from New York City, Jesse Olson from Brooklyn, N.Y., Clare Handleman from New York City and John Atkinson from Manhattan Beach, Calif.
The first round appetizer mystery box contained: Cotton Candy, Peanuts in the Shell, Corn Dogs and Tokyo Scallions. Steve made pad Thai with crushed peanuts using ginger, soy sauce and mirin. John made pork and peanut lettuce cup with drizzling sauce using peppers, cabbage and fish sauce. Jesse made Coney Island corn dog hot dog using paprika and olive oil. Clare made cotton candied peanuts with sautéed hot dog using sugar, garlic and sesame oil. The chef who was eliminated was Steve because he did not highlight the basket ingredients.
The entree round contained: Nachos, Chicken Fingers, Candy Apples and Baby Corn. Clare made candy apple salad with spiced chicken finger using apples, arugula, chili powder and coriander. Jesse made roasted apples with candied apple gastrique using fresh apples, lemon and vinegar. John made chicken finger cakes using jalapenos, mayonnaise, eggs and panko with h double corn gravy using milk and butter. The chef who was "Chopped" in this round was John.
The dessert round included: Snow Cones, Funnel Cakes, Popcorn and Sour Cream. Jesse made snow cone & lemongrass granite using sugar and lemongrass. Clare made vanilla orange cake with funnel cake ice cream using sugar, butter and flour.
The winner of the $10,000 and "Chopped" champion was Clare, who won the $10,000 to use towards her dream of owning her own Thai restaurant.
