‘Chopped’ contestants hear 'Beer Here!' on Food Network

Last night's episode of "Chopped" offered four more chefs an opportunity to compete for the $10,000 and the very elusive title of a champion in this episode where the chefs were given items in the three mystery boxes in this episode titled, “Beer Here!”

The judges for this episode were: Scott Conant, Chris Santos and special guest judge Greg Koch, CEO & co-founder of Stone Brewing Co. The host, as always is Ted Allen.

Competing in this episode are: Lauren Kyles, head chef at Daily Grill & Public School in Los Angeles, Larry Monaco, a private chef also from L.A., Bradley Stellings, a chef in Japan for a brewery and Hiep Le, chef and owner of Le Cellier in Marina Del Rey, Calif.

The first round appetizer mystery box contained: Toasted Lager, Hop Drops, Hickory Smoked Sausage and Fried Pickles. Bradley made braised brat over quick kraut with toasted lager gastrique using onions, peppers and sugar. Hiep made brat & pickle Vietnamese summer roll using fish sauce, mint and basil. Larry made sausage two ways: seared and poached using frisee, thyme and lemon. Lauren made grilled sausage & pepper ragout using baguette, onions and peppers. The chef eliminated from the first round was Larry, because his dish had no flavor of the beer.

The entree round contained: Bourbon Barrel Aged Tripel Ale, Beer Taffy, Beer Cheese and Beef Tips. Lauren made pan-seared beef tips with ale & mustard sauce using balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard and baby potatoes. Hiep made seared black peppered beef with tripel ale & taffy sauce using lemon grass, carrots and lime. Bradley made beer-braised beef stew with beer risotto using tomato paste, carrot and celery. The chef who was "Chopped" in this round was Hiep, whose beef was undercooked and the cheese did not make it to the plate.

The dessert round included: Milk Stout, Stout Beer Jelly, Soft Pretzels and Peaches. Bradley made beer & lime pousse using limes, sugar and cream. Lauren made peach & pretzel panzanella salad using brown sugar, cream and eggs.

The winner of the $10,000 and "Chopped" beer champion was Lauren Kyles, who lost her mother a few years ago, but knew she was smiling on her today.
